Powerwolf, Koko, London

It’s rare to see a gig these days where all the bands on the bill pull off a decent set. Tonight was one of them nights.

Kissin Dynamite opened and produced a really entertaining set. The crowd was already large which was odd as normally no one is normally in the venue this early.

We were in fact quite lucky as we turned up just as the doors opened, the queue was snaked all the way down the road towards Camden, Jim was just before the barriers started so we were able to jump in before it was too late.

Amaranthe put in a good set, like Kissin Dynamite they were restricted to not much space on the stage due to the stage set that Powerwolf had hidden away.

I knew very little about Powerwolf, and still don’t know much to be fair apart from that they are German and put on a great rock show. Watching them I can’t help but think Ghost have used a lot of their onstage mannerisms. The way Papa does certain things onstage is a dead ringer for keyboardist, Falk Maria Schlegel. Then there is the whole play on religion, even the fact some roadies are dressed up. It would be interesting to see an early Powerwolf show, pre the formation of Ghost to see who copied who.
